Blog 3: Molecules

Molecules

Molecules are special things in life. They can make up a lot of things. They are the smallest unit and they can be created by two or more atoms by a chemical bond. Molecules can be everywhere like plants, animals, non-moving objects, and even us. They help us do many things. So, basically molecules are everywhere but they are small.

Blog 2: Enzymes

Enzymes

Ligases

What are they?
Ligases are responsible for the catalysis of ligation, joining of two substrates. A chemical potential energy is required,  so the reaction is together with the hydrolysis of a disphosphate bond in a triphosphate.

DNA Ligases
The most important one is the DNA ligases. It catalysis the ligation between breaks in DNA by a bond. There are different forms of enzymes, and the catalyze different breaks. The DNA ligase can repairs single stranded breaks using complementary strand as a template.
